[Princess Manten]

  • Princess Manten is the adopted daughter of Tokugawa Ieyasu.
His father is Yasumoto Matsudaira, so his daughter is practically the same as his own.
  • Princess Manten lived a tumultuous and eventful life.
First, it was decided that Princess Manten would marry into Hyogo, the legitimate son of Yukinaga Konishi.
At this time, Princess Manten was only 10 years old.
However, it was predicted that the Konishi family would join the West's army at Sekigahara, so there was no introduction of the family.
Hyogo, who was to be a son-in-law, was killed by Mori Terumoto after Sekigahara.
  • Just before the battle of Sekigahara, Princess Manten is asked to marry into the Fukushima family.
The opponent is Masanori's adopted son, Masayuki. Don't say it again.
In Keicho 12, Masayuki was imprisoned because of his "madness" and Princess Manten was forced to divorce him by Masanori's decision to return.
At this time, Princess Manten was finally eighteen years old.
Masayuki, who was her husband, died of starvation. He was said to have passed away at the age of 24.
  • Princess Manten returns, but she is already pregnant with Masayuki's child. Not long after, she gave birth safely, but the baby was a boy.
Several years pass, and Princess Manten enters into the family of Tsugaru Nobuhira.
  • Nobuhira already had an ex-wife. She is Tatsuhime, the daughter of Ishida Mitsunari. Nobuhira demoted Tatsunhime to a side chamberlain and welcomed Mantenhime as his wife in order not to upset the Tokugawa.
The boy born to Fukushima Masayuki is adopted by the retainer, Daidoji Naohide, and takes the name Naohide.
  • However, Nobuhide's heart was in Tatsunhime, and it was Tatsunhime who gave birth to her son, Heizo, first.
The following year, Manten-hime also gave birth to a male child, but Nobuhira decided that she and Tatsun-hime's child would be his son, and in fact, Heizo would later become the third lord of the domain, Nobuyoshi.
  • Even more misfortune strikes Princess Manten, who is no longer in a position to do so.
In Kan'ei 13, it was discovered that Naohide, who was adopted by Daidoji, was trying to appeal to the shogunate to "revive the Fukushima family".
  • Perhaps thinking of Tsugaru's peace of mind, or perhaps not wanting to overlook those who were averse to Tokugawa, Princess Manten poisoned her son on the morning of Naohide's departure for Edo to say one last farewell.
Two years later, Princess Manten died in Hirosaki. He was 50 years old.
